Welcome. I’m Dr. Eugene Capitano, co-founder of TLC PureOrigin.
After more than 25 years working in clinical care, rehabilitation and exercise—and later expanding my work into neuroscience and the gut–brain axis—I learned that health decisions should be supported by evidence, not simply reassuring words on a label.
TLC PureOrigin began at the kitchen table, where my son, Teo, and I started reading protein labels and laboratory reports together. We wanted a protein we would feel confident using ourselves and sharing with our family: thoughtfully formulated, clear about every ingredient and supported by testing people could examine.

Meet Teo — and the room where it gets real.
At TLC PureOrigin, Teo helps guide the company’s strategy and digital direction. He contributed to the product-development and formulation process—including time at NCode Foods alongside his father—and helps shape how the brand appears online, from the Shopify store and website to the way each product is presented.
Teo pressure-tests decisions, asks difficult questions and pushes for sharper, cleaner and more disciplined execution.
And the company’s story began with him. It was Teo’s experience as a young athlete—and one straightforward question about what was actually in the protein he was using—that set TLC PureOrigin in motion.
The video on the right was filmed inside NCode Foods, where TLC PureOrigin protein is blended and packaged. Teo and his father visited the facility, observed the production environment and walked through raw-material handling, blending, packaging and quality-control processes with the manufacturing team.

Verify your production lot
Start with the product in your hands.
In this video, Dr. Eugene Capitano explains what testing actually sits behind your bag—and Teo shows you how to find the results for your own production lot.
What “third-party tested” usually means. A supplier sends a certificate along with an ingredient. That is a reasonable place to start, but it is the supplier’s own paperwork. So we commission our own testing.
Samples from every incoming ingredient lot and every finished production lot are submitted to the University of Guelph’s Agriculture and Food Laboratory—an independent, accredited laboratory—and tested for lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury.
We choose the sample and pay for the testing. We do not run the test, and we cannot change what comes back.
Pass or fail. We calculate the amount per serving and compare it with California Proposition 65 levels—among the strictest thresholds in North America. Nothing requires us to use them; we chose to. Over the line, the lot is not used. Under it, the lot passes this step and must still meet every other requirement. The finished blend is then tested again before release.
Why we do not say “heavy-metal free.” No laboratory can prove absolute zero. These elements occur naturally in soil and water and can appear in ordinary food. When a report reads “not detected,” it means below what that method can measure—not necessarily that none is present. We publish the measured result and the standard used to evaluate it, so you can check our work.
Find your report in three steps:
- Locate the lot number printed on the back of your bag.
- Scan the QR code.
- Match your lot number on the Batch Quality & Reports page, then open the report.
What you will see are the laboratory results for the exact finished production lot used to make your product.
Transparency should be something you can verify—not something a company asks you to take on faith. This is where we want every customer to begin: with the product in your hands and the information behind it.

The whey starts with one ingredient.
TLC PureProtein 80™ begins with Whey Protein Concentrate 80 (WPC-80), gently processed using low-temperature cold microfiltration. We chose it non-instantized, so the whey itself contains no lecithin and no anti-caking agents.
Our unflavoured whey is a true single-ingredient formula: whey protein concentrate. Cocoa and Heritage Vanilla add only the ingredients individually named on their labels—never artificial flavours, generic “natural flavours,” thickening gums or engineered flavour systems.
Supplier documentation identifies the WPC-80 as non-GMO and gluten-free at the ingredient level, and confirms that the milk comes from cows not treated with added growth hormones (rBST/rBGH).
The honest trade-off: non-instantized whey may clump naturally. Shake vigorously, blend, or let it rest briefly. We’ll take a few clumps over adding an emulsifier.

Ingredient transparency
One ingredient on the label. Six in the bag.
“Natural flavour” reads like one ingredient. It is often a complete proprietary system. Before creating our Heritage Vanilla, we reviewed the technical datasheets flavour suppliers provide to manufacturers—the documents customers rarely see.
One commercial natural vanilla flavour powder listed:
- Maltodextrin—listed first, so it was the largest component
- “Natural flavours”—another undisclosed mixture
- Gum arabic
- Glycerin
- Vanilla bean extractives
- Steviol glycosides—shown at 0.26%
This does not mean the flavour is automatically harmful or that the supplier broke a rule. The concern is transparency: a shopper cannot evaluate ingredients that have been folded into a category name.

Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk), Organic Coconut Sugar, Vanilla Extract Powder (Acacia Fiber, Vanilla Extract [Vegetable Glycerin, Water, Vanilla Bean]), Ground Vanilla Bean (with seeds), Sea Salt, Ceylon Cinnamon, Potassium Chloride.
Our vanilla extract powder is alcohol-free: vanilla extract made with vegetable glycerin and water, carried on acacia fibre rather than maltodextrin. We disclose the carrier and everything inside the extract, together with ground whole vanilla bean (with seeds) and Ceylon cinnamon. The same openly disclosed vanilla system is used in both our whey and plant Heritage Vanilla formulas.
What real vanilla tastes like: warm, aromatic and spice-forward rather than intensely sweet. It opens up with milk, a minute’s rest, and works beautifully in oatmeal, yogurt and baking.
Our position is simple: you cannot evaluate what you cannot see. We chose full disclosure so you never have to guess.
