Clean Nutrition Needed a Clearer Standard

The protein category is filled with products described as clean, natural, premium, and scientifically formulated. But when we began looking beyond the front of the package, we realized that these words often said very little about what was actually inside.

Ingredient lists frequently included non-nutritive sweeteners, emulsifier systems, gums, reconstructed flavour systems, and broadly defined “Natural Flavors.” Independent testing also demonstrated that heavy-metal contamination could vary considerably between ingredients and finished products, yet customers were rarely given access to batch-specific testing.

The deeper we looked, the clearer the problem became.

Products were often optimized for sweetness, instant mixability, texture, and manufacturing convenience. Far less attention was being paid to ingredient transparency, microbial considerations, physiological dosing, and independent verification.

At the same time, Dr. Capitano’s research into the gut–brain axis and the microbiome-disruptive potential of commonly used food additives raised an important question:

Why should a protein designed to support health contain unnecessary ingredients that may work against the biology it is supposed to support?

That question became our starting point.

Sitting together at the kitchen table, we made a decision:

“Let’s build a protein that supports human physiology—not marketing claims.”

We did not set out to create another protein powder. We set out to establish a more accountable way of formulating one.

That meant removing ingredients that served the formulation more than the person using it. It meant rejecting artificial and non-nutritive sweeteners, emulsifier systems, gums, synthetic additives, and “Natural Flavors.” It also meant independently testing raw materials before production and validating the finished product after blending.

Every formula would need to meet four principles:

Purposeful formulation. Every ingredient must have a clear nutritional or functional reason for being included.

Biological consideration. Products are designed with muscle physiology, metabolism, and microbial integrity in mind.

Independent verification. Raw ingredients and finished batches are tested for heavy metals and microbiological contaminants.

Radical transparency. Customers can access batch-specific quality and testing information through the QR code printed on every package.
